Ordering custom printed t-shirts used to mean committing to hundreds of units. Not any more. Here is how short-run UK t-shirt printing works in 2026, and how to get a result you are happy to hand out.
Start with the size split, not the total
The most common mistake we see is ordering by total quantity and guessing the sizes later. Our order form lets you build a size breakdown - 2 x XL, 6 x L, 4 x M and so on - so you pay for what you will actually wear. For staff teams, a quick sizing form before you order saves far more money than shaving pennies off the unit price.
Choose the right print method
- DTF heat press - excellent for full colour artwork, photographic detail and small runs. No screen setup costs.
- Screen printing - unbeatable per-unit price once you are into the hundreds with one or two colours.
- Sublimation - for polyester garments and all-over colour.
Not sure which suits your artwork? Our printing methods guide breaks each one down, or send the file through our free file check and we will tell you honestly.
Artwork: get this right and everything else is easy
Send a PDF or high-resolution PNG with a transparent background where possible. Aim for 300dpi at final print size. Vector artwork always reproduces cleanest for logos and text.
Colours will always look slightly different on fabric than they do on a backlit screen - that is normal for full colour printing, and a physical proof removes the guesswork.
Realistic UK lead times
Most short-run t-shirt orders leave us on standard turnaround, with express and urgent options when a deadline moves. Printing and shipping in the UK means no customs delays and no three-week sea freight.
What short runs are great for
- New starter packs and staff uniform top-ups
- Event crew shirts and volunteer teams
- Merch drops you want to test before scaling
- Club, society and fundraising kit
If t-shirts are part of a wider kit, look at matching hoodies, caps and tote bags so the whole set lands together.
